Garden Club of the Sandhills 50th Anniversary Celebration Tablescapes at Weymouth Center & Dinner at Southern Prime in the evening. October 12, 2016

October 12, 2016 was a landmark day for the Garden Club of the Sandhills. The day began at the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities.  Hartley Fitts, our very own member and accomplished interior and landscape planner and home decorator, led a band of amazingly ladies in creating fantastic tablescapes for our enjoyment and the enjoyment of the Sandhills community.

Everyone headed home after, marveling at the fantastic floral arrangements and tablescapes we had the pleasure of viewing.  Our thoughts then turned to the pleasures and treats that were to lay in store for the evening to come…

We gathered back at Weymouth Center to share champagne bubbles and smiles with each other and out guests, before heading over to Southern Prime for a delicious dinner.

To quote Elizabeth ‘Blitz’ Yountz, 1966

“Everyone here likes for visitors to come here and admire us – so we’d like to help keep the Sandhills beautiful not only by keeping it clean and encouraging it’s natural beauty, but by planting more gardens.  Our garden club is new but has an intense interest and energy in its members, who wants to do these things for the Sandhills.”

We may no longer be a new garden club but these words still ring true – here’s to our next 50 years!

2016-2017 Kickoff

The Garden Club of the Sandhills kicked off its 2016-2017 season holding their first meeting at the Timmel Pavilion on the grounds of the Pinehurst Village Arboretum. A beautiful “50 Blooming Years” booklet created by club members was given to each member. It tells the story, in photos and words, of the formation, goals and contributions the club has made.

The meeting’s guest speaker was Norma Burns, who spoke about edible flowers and herbs.  Club member, Lydia Gill, was the winner of the aloe plant door prize provided by Ms Burns.
